Skepticism is usually the first thing that comes to mind when we get some sort of education material these days. The overwhelming amount of information we get these days is more of a setback than a tool to help us move on.
I am a dude that has always loved drawing but lost my passion and motivation to the craft in the last 20 years. As it was something that used to make me feel really good as a kid and teen I decided to reconnect to my drawings as an adult to help me ease the torment of being a working class adult in a late-capitalist reality.
It wasn't easy, I got bombarded with videos telling me supposed secrets on how to get good, or the fad of ultrarealism that is the farthest thing from what I imagine to be artistic expression and to the surprise of none, I gave up again .
This book was what it took me to go back to my path. About embracing style, imperfections and the rough nature of art as north to my artwork. This book is less of a tutorial on how to do things and more of a manifesto to remind us why we do it.
A lot of valuable insights both in text and image, a lot of cool references and things to keep people like us, the common person, interested in expressing ourselves in a way that feels natural and authentic. Rescuing the elements of retro art that made it special but not just to be stuck in the past. Use it as a tool to communicate in a way that feels up to date and timeless
