How to Use Halftone Brushes in Illustrator

Follow the video below for step-by-step instructions on how to use halftone brushes in Adobe Illustrator. We'll be using our ColorLab Color Comic Kit.

Method 01: blob brush

  1. Create a new layer.
  2. Select the Blob Brush. Make sure your stroke color is selected.
  3. Select a swatch.
  4. Begin to paint! OPTIONAL: After you've applied the swatch, you can Unite all of your strokes in the Pathfinder Panel.
  5. Set the transparency to Multiply.
  6. Repeat Steps 1-5 for each color.

To Resize:

  1. Select all of your halftone layers.
  2. Select the Scale Tool and double click.
  3. Uncheck the Transform Objects box.
  4. Set your scale percentage.

Method o2: Apply to Shapes

  1. Choose a swatch and create a new shape. You can also choose an existing shape and pick a swatch to apply the halftones to that shape.
  2. Set the transparency to Multiply.
