Funny Papers

RSCO has the best and coolest products out there, hands down. Everything is extremely easy to use and figure out and very intuitive. I have bought A LOT of their products (brushes, paper texture, fonts, etc), and they are so authentic and top notch. And they are on it with customer service. They have responded to my messages time and time again and have always been extremely helpful. Great company with great products and great customer service. I'd give 11 stars but 5 is the limit. "But this goes to 11..."

I love paper textures, it's almost an obsession. I already have the Phantom Paper and Paper Boy packs and was sorry there weren't more, because I find these packs incredibly wonderful, so when RSCO announced this new pack I was thrilled. In themselves, the textures are qualitative for the most part, some less defined when you zoom in but it's still okay. My disappointment comes from the fact that you don't use them like the textures in Phantom Paper for example, with different layers. They are "only" jpegs whose blending mode must be changed. And depending on the background image, the result is not up to expectations: imperceptible at best, too dark at worst.

Unlike other retro supply products like phantom paper, these do not include the separate multiply and screen layers in addition to the actual paper texture. I wish this was made more clear in the product description. These are nice textures but less flexible than other offerings with just a single layer with the paper texture. for the price I wouldn’t recommend this product unless you really see something you like or get a deal as you can easily find hi res textures online for free.

The Funny Papers have been a great addition to my Procreate library. I’ve been able to use them to make a French inspired series I’m working look more authentic. The paper gives new life to the story I’m creating, and I can’t wait to be able to share it with the world.

I’d written an earlier review, expressing surprise that the textures I’d expected from seeing the ads didn’t match what I was seeing. I couldn’t seem to edit my last review, or delete it, but wanted to add that after working with these more, I see what I was missing. They are indeed textures, I just needed to Zoom in more, and set them to Multiply. The ads just threw me off, not what I was expecting, but I can see how these would be great for comic work, and would be closer to what the original papers would be. Next time I’ll wait a bit before really giving something a chance, sorry all.
