My life was depending on this poster I had to design. Well, not exactly my life, but the park I dearly love was facing destruction and the cutting down of 1000 trees in Lower Manhattan. I had to rally the community to fight NYC’s City Hall plans. So it had to be pretty much the best thing I ever designed and not have my telltale usual signature moves so I wouldn’t get fired from my City job. Machine Shop delivered—it looks like it was made in the 50s and the poster got press in 5 or 6 local publications. (About 20 community members stepped in to wheat-paste them all over the place.) Our elected officials got riled up (okay, it was hand-drawn portraits of them, calling them Destroyers of the park) but we now have a fighting chance to save the park. I’m not kidding—it was seriously this texture package that made it look so damn cool.
