The Chris Piascik Pack for Photoshop & Fresco

So, I’m not usually one to buy brushes, which is maybe not a great philosophy to have. I’ve bought ones before for PS and not been very happy (from other sites). Needless to say, I’ve been reticent to try things like this. But this really will save you money in hours of design time trying to figure out how to apply these vintage textures to your art and you don’t have to do it the way Chris does it either. Like yes, i used the colours on different layers and all that, but my artwork is nothing like the stuff Chris does, which is actually why i follow him (aside from his approachability and authenticity in his very helpful tutorials(. I like learning about styles that are drastically different from my own and finding out that my process is similar to that of the artist I’m watching. But this is about this pack. Recently I have been working on a pack of cards to hand out at events so that people have something of mine with a ton of varied illustrations to see what I can do and I was struggling to find a way to make them a bit more interesting, so I used the halftone brushes. I used them in an kind of unexpected way on a Rococo style illustration and I love the pastel effect that it gave, which works with the time period and i was able to layer the colours in interesting and unexpected ways. I’ve barely even begin to dig into this pack and figure out what to do with it, but try it out, add some vintage quality to your work, it’s fun! My only qualm is that I can’t seem to get the…

I can’t say enough good things about Chris’s pack here, it’s well worth the money. I’ve purchased a bunch of his presets and textures and typefaces and I’m excited to experiment. It helps you to play around in the way you would on paper which reconnects you to your work and helps you bring authenticity to it. I follow him religiously on YouTube and find his videos to be a great way to start the day with my daily drawing practice. He explains things in a way that makes sense and it’s a great way to add another tool to your belt as an illustrator and graphic designer. Very inspiring. He just validates my experiences and makes me less scared and less perfection obsessed.

Watched several Piascik vids on his youtube and saw how frequently he went back to this set. Loved the way it brought life to his work and decided it was worth it to try some new brushes! Im in love with the set and have only scratched the surface on what these new tools will allow me to do. HIGHLY recommend. See 3 new works that were created specifically to mess with this set.

As a professional comic cartoonist, I quite often find that when I have a bit of "spare" time I have a massive need to play around and practice other things that I enjoy, and this year I've been having a lot of fun working on illustrative lettering. As we all know, Chris P is the master, and having completely devoured his entire YT channel, I really REALLY wanted to try out the tools he uses to make his work. No joke, this brush pack just took my absolutely terrible lettering art to a completely new level! It was also really fun to learn a new technique with the riso brushes. The quality of the pack is incredible, and I'd highly recommend them to digital artists. I'll definitely be popping back to the Retro Supply co shop in the future, there are so many other packs I'm itching to get my mitts on!
