ColorLab for Affinity

As I didn't have the space or time to keep my paper, ink, pens, and brushes constantly at hand, my hobby gradually fell by the wayside. Being a professional musician, it struck me as practical to switch from stacks of paper to a digital setup. I bought a new iPad and an Apple Pencil, discovered Procreate, purchased ColorLab, and... a whole new world opened up for me. Everything I had wanted to learn as a child—but which had been beyond my reach and budget—now seemed possible. I’ve since devoted far more time to it than I originally intended, and my sheet music still hasn't been scanned, but I’m having a great time. Learned a lot in a very short time and still learning.

I had to finish a concept artwork for a 2D video game, but I wasn’t sure what style to use — pixel art, 3D dummies, Illustrator … It had to be done quickly, so drawing by hand was the best option. But I had no idea how to give it a unique look, I hadn't done before.

That’s when I stumbled upon your tutorials on YouTube — one video and I was hooked. I bought three packages, watched your videos, and a couple of days later I had enough assets to finish the concept — with a unique new look that I really really love now.

ColorLab is truly amazing. I have other brushes that mimic newsprint halftones, but there is no explanation for how to properly use them (aligning, color choices, blend modes). So after repeated attempts with other halftone brush packs, I was left feeling stupid and gave up on trying to master the "old school" look that I love from comic book reading. But with ColorLab (and one of RSCO's How-To videos), I was able to reproduce the cheesy, dirty, wonderful looks from years gone by. Thank you, ColorLab, for making me look smart!!

I have tried *many* halftone processes for Procreate (overlays, filters, etc.) and this was the first one that made me go WHOA. It was so fun to see the digital artwork transform into a classic printed comic. Plus I'm a total nerd about printing processes so the color charts and rootedness in printing history are just lovely. The process of switching colors/brushes/layers multiple times for each color was a bit cumbersome, but got smoother with practice and was totally worth it. I did the piece uploaded here using the solid color palettes first, per the included tutorial. Also came back to get the Duplitone set (also awesome) to finish off the shading. Great user guides, great product--highly recommend. :)

Every features is easy to use and there This tool is very easy to use, there are some very helpful guides. The feature that really helps is the color palette that is already available in procreate along with the code. Now I can make artwork with a touch of vintage comics. The most important thing is the color limitation which is very helpful in the screen printing process.
