Have you ever wished you owned a wood type shop? Well, know you can own your own digital version.
The Wood & Ink Photoshop Texture Kit includes over 60 textures. Each one created in the RetroSupply Co. shop from real ink, wood, water, brushes, paper and more.
Here's what you get when you buy the pack (and the work that went into it):
20 Photoshop Wood Type Styles
Photoshop styles are like effect shortcuts. So all the information that goes into creating a specific effect can be achieved by click on a style. These Photoshop Wood Type styles were created by printing and acquiring a massive amount of wood block prints.
Then they were scanned into Photoshop and 600 DPI, carefully converted into a 100% seamless high-resolution pattern, then combined with other Photoshop effects to achieve and ink pressure look. Plus, we made it so you can easily change the color of the ink.
20 Wood & Ink Photoshop Brushes
Brushes compliment Photoshop styles great. They let you get more granular and add subtle ink textures, distressed areas and more.
I like to think of the Photoshop style as the base (which looks great on it's own) and the brushes as tools for detail work.
We've packed in tons of different types of brushes. There's fine ink textures, sprays, wood block textures, and we even threw in two 19th century inspired wood block patterns.
15 Seamless Wood Print Textures
These are the raw bases of the Photoshop styles we've included. These are just the seamless texture patterns (no style info). They're ideal for backgrounds or even creating your own personalized Photoshop styles.
Not sure how to create your own styles? Just look at the ones we've included. They'll give you some ideas on how to get started.
5 Wood Block Photoshop Brushes
These wood block brushes are a useful addition to the kit. I like to use them to fill in areas in my type work with some visual interest. Originally they were used in wood type work to help position letters. But they look pretty damn cool on their own.
5 Ink Splatter Overlays
Overlays are awesome! Need some ink splatters? No problem. Just File > Place your Ink Splatter overlay PNG into you work. The ink spray is isolated so it just lays on top of your work and looks awesome.

We don't normally do this but I wanted to challenge myself to make this pack super-awesome.
We have a new font that we just wrapped up called FireBox. It was designed by the talented Scott Fuller of The Studio Temporary. It's inspired by wood type (but just remind me of cowboys).
Anyway, when you purchase this pack now you'll get FireBox for FREE! This is only available for a limited time. In a few weeks we'll release the font on it's own and remove it from this pack.
FireBox supports all western European languages and retails for $15
Not sure this packs right for you?
No worries. You can download the sample pack! It included two Wood & Ink Photoshop files, a PNG splatter texture, two Wood & Ink brushes (including our famous edge brush), authentic 1950s vector art and a link to the free font we used!
Get 19th Century American Wood Cut Type Effects Instantly (Innovative Photoshop Action)
In the early 19th century breakthroughs in printing technology transformed print forms away from hand lettered script styles and into industrial, hard edged blocks of type.
For over a century print companies like Hamilton Manufacturing, Empire Wood Type Co., American Wood Type Mfg Co. and Eastern Brass & Wood Type created beautiful type for mass consumption. A huge variety of gothic, antique and slab fonts were used to create gorgeous advertisements, notices, posters and more.
In the 1920s wood type product began to decline due to faster due to offset printing technology. But wood type still lives on through a handful of printers that still practice this tradition.
How It Works
American Wood Type is directly inspired by this history and manufactures. Using common woods and inks we've done our best to recreate these print effects digitally using textures, patterns and a powerful Photoshop action.
American Wood Type allows you to achieve these effects quickly on all but the largest Photoshop canvases. No Smart PSDs. Just one powerful action that lets you choose the textures, colors, edges, and intensity of your wood type effects.
Want to take American Wood Type for a test run? Download the sample version here. It only contains 3 of the effects and is for personal use only. But it's fun to use and you'll get a good idea how the product works!
Let's face it. It's basically impossible to find good ink textures for your work. You can search all over the web for brushes and end up wasting hours (and still have no good tools to show for it).
I'll let you in on a little secret (and this is exactly why they're so hard to find)...
Most of the people making these brushes are getting other people's free resources (and poorly made low resolution ones at that) and creating their own brushes or textures from them.
Plus, the original brushes and textures weren't even made from real ink textures in the first place!
The result is a disappointing set of tools that make it seem impossible to get these effects.
I've always wanted a pack like this (and always been majorly disappointed and the products on the market).
So while on sabbatical in Florence, Italy I discovered a little art shop on a cobblestone side street. I couldn't resist going in (especially when I imagined that guys like Michelangelo had probably walked down these same streets).
Inside I found a little shop packed from floor to ceiling with paint, ink, brushes, rollers and paper. I decided that I wanted to take a little piece of my journey home with me (in the form of some amazing ink textures).
So I bought a bunch of ink, rollers, brushes and paper and went back to my apartment for the weekend to make the best ink pack that I could.

Sometimes you need something quick and simple to get the job done.
We made our new line of Essential texture packs to give you highly specific textures, brushes, and other resources, at a great price.
Our flagship pack is the Concrete Essential Texture Pack. To make the textures we grabbed our handy Canon 50D and Sigma 13-35mm lens and hit the streets.
We photographed concrete textures from old walls in downtown Portland, sidewalks in new developments, and garage concrete textures from our own RetroSupply studio. Then we picked the best 10 textures and made them in every file format you'll ever need.
